Watch for more templates for creating books for Kindle and iPad coming your way. Just our way of saying “Happy Holidays.” This week we will be working with a fun ePub that can display on any device having the Kindle Reader: Super Simple ePub. This template will include twelve inside pages with covers. You just provide the images and text.

What you will need

To use the template will need Amazon’s free Kindle Previewer application running on one of the following systems:

  • Windows XP, Vista, System 7
  • Macintosh System OS10.5 and above

Kindle Previewer can be downloaded from

You will also need an application for editing and cropping your images.

If you haven’t invested in an image editor for your computer yet because you thought Photoshop was too expensive. The good news is that Photoshop Elements has just about everything Photoshop has and, in some ways, more, and its price tag is in line for the non-professional. For me, the deal of the century is the combo package that includes Premiere Elements for editing video. Together, these feature-packed applications have an off-the-shelf price of about $149. Be sure to get Version 11 as it has some new features you will not want to be without. Although I have Photoshop Professional, I use Elements for my scrapbooking and greeting cards as it comes packed with backgrounds, images, shapes, and style presets.

Lastly, you will need a text editor for editing the HTML , OPF, and maybe the CSS file. If you have Dreamweaver, so much the better. But you can do all that is needed using a text editor such as TextEdit or WordPad. Just make sure you set the preferences to open these files as plain text (not rtf).

So get in the spirit. It’s not too late to put together a little book for your special someone. Once you have your images selected and decide on what you want to say, the entire process of putting a book together should take less than an hour. Start picking out the images you want to use. Full instructions come bundled in the download package you will find on our EPub page.
